Personal Narrative Essay: The Sport Of Curling

Curling is a very cold, unpopular sport that I have known since I was four years old, when my parents started a curling club. Now, I am not talking about a curling iron that makes your hair look nice. I am talking about the sport of curling that is played on ice with rocks and brooms. To me, curling does not seem like an odd, unknown sport. Yet within the world of sports, it is not very common, but generally people have heard of it because of the Winter Olympics. To start the club, my parents first rented ice time from The Chiller North. When you curl, though, the ice has to be in perfect condition, and since The Chiller doubles as hockey ice, there were a lot of slopes, which is not ideal for curling. At this point in my life, I wanted very little to do with the curling club, let alone the sport curling itself. Now do not get me wrong, I liked the sport and I had learned the basics of it, but I did not want to play it, watch it, or talk about it. Through those years, the club went through some upgrades, even got a third sheet of ice, and eventually other people took over as President and Vice President. Just because I helped create the curling club and was immersed in curling all the time, did not mean that I had to start curling competitively. Instead, I had to independently figure out if I wanted to become a serious curler. In life, you cannot depend on things being handed to you. You have to know when you enjoy something, and when you are doing it just because it is
