The Wife of Bath
For as long as I can remember, I have moved from place to place searching for something but I could never figure out what I was missing. One could say that my story began with my first husband; a man who had more interest in his booze than in me. Another could say it started with my second husband who found interest in another woman while we were married. Each of my 5 husbands were a new beginning to my story. Following the 5th husband, I felt the urge to move to a new location and I found myself in Chicago. I had a lot of money and knew that I would be able to support myself. Each day followed the same schedule; wake up, drive to work, come home late, and go to bed. There were men who tried to talk to me and I always lied and said I was married.
One December night I decided to treat myself to a fancy dinner and went to a beautiful Italian restaurant in town that I had heard was amazing. I was used to eating alone and had no problem with …show more content…

I read the note “You are more beautiful than any flower -John” followed by his phone number. A smile drew across my face which quickly turned to tears as I was overcome with emotion. I wondered how he knew where I worked and why he sent me flowers. Later that evening, I called the number and questioned why he was sending me flowers and I began yelling before he said a word. He replied “Your past has messed you up to the point where someone doing something nice for you feels wrong. I 'm trying to fix you. You are an amazing woman. I sent you flowers because you are well deserving of them and so much more…” he rambled on and I hung up as tears streamed down my face. I couldn 't handle to hear any of it. For the next few days, I woke up and to a paragraph text telling me how “beautiful” I am. Eventually, I caved in and we went on a few dates before I began distancing myself. No one could love a woman
