“I’m not making this up,” Rose was saying. “He was looking over at us the whole time we were talking to Rio.” “I don’t know about that,” said Jake. “He might have just been looking in our general direction.” He leaned against the horse stall, taking large gulps from a water bottle. He enjoyed teasing her through disagreement. But Rose knew she wasn’t making it up. Earlier, when they had been grooming the horses, she’d caught the new guy looking at her. He was gorgeous, with curly brown hair that he kept in a bun and light brown skin. His eyes were so dark brown they looked black. The reception table was turned upside down and the bunny girl was using it as a bed. Roman and Jake were curled up on either side of Rosie. She shook them awake, too exhausted to speak. She let Roman and Jake adjust to the light and went off in search for something to wear. She grabbed the tablecloth, and a few discarded items of clothing. Wrapping herself in the white fabric, she handed Roman a pair of shorts that were two sizes too big for him. For Jake, she had found a maxi dress with printed skulls all over it. He shrugged and threw it on. They made their way out silently, making sure not to step on anyone. Rosie felt like she was walking through a den of sleeping lions. She was extra careful not to toe any of them by accident. At the entrance to the tunnel, she began walking normally again. They walked in a straight line until they reached the other side. They had no idea what time it was, but they figured it was still early. The walk back to the farm wasn’t as long as Roman had expected. Though he had a pounding headache, there was a slight breeze that blew his hair about. He’d lost the hair tie last night, and his long curls were now billowing in the wind.
