In the summer of 2012, my sister and I joined the Saltillo High dance team. For Elizabeth and I, our first pair of shoes were ballet slippers, but our fellow team members had little to no knowledge of dance. Elizabeth and I felt a strong responsibility to use our talents to transform fourteen softball players into dancers. We learned very quickly the cost of being a leader- sacrifice. Elizabeth and I found ourselves searching for ways to improve the team, choreographing routines, and privately instructing stragglers.

The second that you think you are the best, the game will humble you. When you are at a loss for confidence, you will do something amazing that will turn your game around. It's hard to stay optimistic in a Challenge, sometimes you want to give up and quit. But in the end you have to stay with it. Whether it be getting a new job, starting college, learning to drive, working in a group you don't want to be in ,and even playing a new instrument. You have to try your hardest to stay together and keep going for your friends, family, and for yourself. One of the hardest challenges for me was switching instruments the end of the eighth grade year for the marching band that next fall.

In The Outsiders, two different “groups” separate all the characters: the Socs and the Greasers. The Socs and Greasers don’t like each other because both groups are stereotyped and do not understand each other. The Socs are a group of wealthy teenagers living on the West side of town.
This summer, I had to turn my back on something that has been close with me since I was eight. My dance studio closed, I had been going there since I was eight. To be honest, when I first started, I was terrible. But weren’t we all when we first started the sport that we loved? Six years later, I am still dancing and even more than I had when I first started.

In “The Use of Force” of William Carlos Williams, I agree with the way that the doctor treats Mathilda for two reasons. Firstly, there’s no other appropriate way to treat Mathilda. In order to treat Mathilda, the doctor has to examine the patient’s throat, but the patient doesn’t open the mouth. The doctor has tried every appropriate ways to examine her, but she still refuses the examination. Thus, the doctor has to use his strength to force the patient in order to treat her.

Native American Ceremonies’ When I was ten years old I learned of my Indian culture. I learned I was of the Cherokee tribe. My dad had always hung Indian decorations in our home, but I have never given much thought of why he has done so. This peaked my interest, so I started asking questions. He told me we were part Cherokee and part Choctaw native American.
Instead of attending the three cultural events, I chose to tutor through the OMSS MARC program. I was assigned two Hispanic, 5th grade girls named Jazmin and Priscilla. Priscilla just moved to the US from Veracruz, Mexico and spoke very little English at the beginning of our meetings. One of the women in charge had me speak in both Spanish and English to her so that she could both understand me and work on her English. Jazmin speaks mainly English, but was very helpful with translating some of the things Priscilla and I had trouble communicating.
