It was a typical chilly October Friday night on the football field under the lights with fans screaming, the hype of the game in full effect, when my life was altered and I was forced to make a decision. I was running down the field in hopes to catch the football thrown in my direction when I was hit. Everything seemed fine, until I tried to stand up. I felt excruciating pain come from my right leg, I looked down only to see the bone bulging from my right shin. I’ve always been told that no mater what you are dong adversity is going to come but it all breaks down to how you are going to respond. Was I going to let my promising baseball career come to a halt or would I beat the odds and come back better than ever? Finally, hours after the injury the doctor came back into my silent hospital room to say that I had broken my tibia and fibula, the two bones making up my leg. The first three months in the hip cast were spent just trying to strengthen the muscles around my leg so that as soon as I got out the cast I could start walking. The next three months were spent in a boot doing minimal weight bearing exercises. Once I was released out of the boot I was told the harder I worked the faster I was going to get better. So I did just that, within the next ten months I was back running full speed and doing what I love on the baseball field. This experience taught me four main things about life, things I may have never known about if I wouldn’t have had to handle this type of adversity. First It showed me how humbling life can be. Before my injury I felt so close to accomplishing my goal, I was talking to college coaches and had visits to schools lined up.
