Personal Narrative: How Twins Changed My Life

Having twins has changed my life in many ways and the day they were born was the start of that adventure, no matter what happens they make my me smile. I always knew I wanted to be a mother, but I never expected to have twins. My pregnancy and life with twins has taught me patience and perseverance.

For most of my pregnancy I was on bed rest due to complications of the pregnancy. At the hospital we would always make a big scene trying to find the babies heart beat and I usually needed two or more nurses by my side to find their heartbeats. My mom started telling funny stories and my ex-husband, and my grandmother decided to go get something to eat, and once they were gone the doctor came in and said it was time to push. I was panicked and wanted my ex-husband and grandma back in the room and while they were wheeling me into the operating room, since twins are always born in an operating room, they made it back just in time.

While I was pushing, one of the doctors noticed one of the heartrates dropping, she didn’t know which one it was, since the wires had gotten crossed, so they traced it back and it was Michael’s heartbeat that had dropped. Since Michael was the second to be born I had to have a C-section, if it was Minerva, his sister, then it wouldn’t have been a problem. They strapped my arms to the operating table, so my arms wouldn’t move during surgery, and put something pink on my stomach to disinfect it. Then they tested to see if the epidural would work for the surgery, it wouldn’t, so they had to put me
