These are one of the many different colors of the skin there are in the world. Our skin color, how we look, what language we speak, and where we are from should not make us different from everyone else. I myself am an afghan muslim american. So when my teacher told me I have to find works from american literature I thought how I am going to make this not only personally compelling but, interesting as well. This is why I chose from many different and diverse pieces of arts, poems, and speeches that I connected to in many different levels. Which is why the I chose “I Have a Dream” as my first piece underneath the theme change. He gave his speech on August 28, 1963 he quoted “I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal.” This quote really ties everything up. Even till this day there are very big conflicts with how much independence or freedom we actually have. In The declaration of independence it says “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This quote tells us that all men are created equal but what triggered me is what happened in the 1900’s when people had slaves. When they judged people because of the color of their skin. When they weren't characterized as men thus not characterised as humans. Coming from that era of time till the present day many concepts and ideas have changed. Which bring us to our next theme Independence. I chose works from George W.
