It was August 6,2011, I saw my mom walking back and forth in my bedroom to make sure that I packed everything I needed, before I leave to catch my flight. I wanted to see how she felt about the situation. So, I decided to read her face expressions, but it was really hard; my mom is really good in hiding her emotions. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes to hours; I kept looking at her but there was nothing, I couldn 't see any emotions. It was finally time to head to the Asmara International Airport, we drove in silence. At that time I kept wondering how my life would turn out after leaving my country, at age 14 to prsue my american dream. You will go live in America with your dad and your step mom. I didnt want you to go but, your dad kept telling me about the educational benefits in the states. You are so young, if you work hard enough and use your time wisely: you will make it baby-girl. Make me proud beautiful, I cant wait to see you seccsed. I looked at her and started crying; but mommy I don 't wanna live my life without you. You carried me in your belly for 9 months; gave birth to me; nurtred me; huged me and out off all this you loved my uncoditinaly, even when I kept making stupid mistakes. No one can take your place, I dont wanna live with my step mom. She said,” baby I understand, I am not gonna sit here and tell you that everything is gonna be perfect.
