Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.
My Writing Progression “It’s what we think we know that keeps us from learning” This quote from Claude Bernard describes my writing development this year. At the beginning of this schoolyear, I thought that I was going to go into this year and be able to breeze through this class because I could write a good essay last year and analyze stories, but I was wrong. Lit Comp Honors has been a brand-new experience for me.
My supporting ideas would get mixed and I would lose the attention of the reader. Secondly after rereading my own writing it becomes clearer that my sentences are not making sense and the reader gives up before reading the rest of the writing. Previous teachers have told me that I am not speaking clear enough about the topic I am trying to explain and/or relate to. When writing it appears clear to me, but when someone else reads it, it does not appear clear to them. My third and final goal was to comprehend direction.
Exit Essay Before fall semester started my writing skill were not the best as my high school was not as strict in writing structure. The way I write has gotten sloppy and careless but I saw some improvement this fall semester In semester in English 1301, I have relearn grammar and sentence structure.
One of my strengths about writing is that, if I get something to write about I usually don’t stop typing until I’m done. I also get very focused. Another positive is that my papers are usually long, and I don’t have to worry about the minimum. Some weaknesses about my writing is that in my papers I like to talk about my horse and I usually use ‘horse slang’ that most people don’t understand. I don’t know how to tranfer my horse words to explain it to normal people.
My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit.
Well my first concrete strategies is to have Fridays off which mean I can be able to work Friday all day. My second strategy is to end my classes between 12:05pm or 1:30pm in order to have my afternoon free to work. My three strategy is to find a location that is not far from my house nor John Jay College so that the commute from school to work and work to school is not far so, that I can be able to balance my school work and a job. Also If I find a location that works on Saturday and Sunday I can work from Friday to Sunday giving me a flexible time to balance work and
Creative writing is something that helps you to show off your imaginative and innovative power. Writing conveys emotions, messages, feelings, and plots. It started as a hobby, collecting my ideas, emotions and dialogues, which later became stories. But now it has developed into my passion. I have always longed to express my imaginative abilities through writing, but hesitated due to its unfamiliarity.
If you could pick one word for writing, what would it be? For me, my word would be expression. Writing is a form of expression, a way to express feelings, ideas, opinions, and a whole other world that lives inside your mind. For me, this ability to express everything that roams wild though my head allowed me to grow in my writing as well as make it an outlet for any difficult life situation. I was able to put my voice and own spin on to my writing; this is the strange event of how I've grown into my writing over the many years.
I may have a small problem with my ego. Sure, I know that just because I may find the work that I do to be amazing, doesn 't mean that everyone will think that my writing pieces are the best and hold it up for the world to see. But how in the world did I get into Intro to Creative Writing? Am I so untalented that I 'm forced to relearn the bedrock, the basic necessities of writing. I don 't think so.
I always had a hard time reading, but yet it was not the words I had problems with. I knew what all the words were by memorizing them. However, when it came to stories, I could not remember what I read. I realized this when I took an assessment test in second grade.
My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
My favorite style of writing form this semester was the descriptive style. I thoroughly enjoyed writing the essay because I had the perfect essay topic. A descriptive essay allows me to express the sights, sounds, and smells from the event. In my opinion, it was also the easiest to write because you can tell so much about how the event made you feel. A descriptive essay encompass a multitude of illustration techniques that I enjoyed.
