My mom, siblings and I go to Oklahoma City a few times a year for shopping. We shop the whole day and usually eat in bricktown at the old Kevin Durant restaurant that was changed to the legacy grill last summer but the restaurant was closed down. So my mom suggested we eat at Johnnie’s charcoal broiler, which happens to be her favorite restaurant. My siblings have never tried Johnnie’s so they wanted to go. I’ve had Johnnie’s before and it wasn’t very good so I didn’t want it eat there but since it was getting late we didn’t have many options. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy, the food was average and staff was friendly. We went to a different Johnnie’s then the one I went to before. Both my sister and I would disagree with that statement after trying the burgers, they don’t have a taste. The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, salads and a variety of sides. My mom and one of my brothers ordered the bacon cheese burger, my sister ordered a plain cheese burger, my youngest brother ordered a plain kids meal burger and I ordered a cheese burger. We got an order of onion rings and two orders of cheese fries to share. All the food is fairly priced for the portion sizes. The food was brought to the booth within six minutes. The burgers came with a lot of thick shredded cheese on them, you have to scrap half of it off to even taste the burger. The burgers are huge and all the sides are large enough to share. They cheese fries were good, the onion rings were really greasy. They have a signature sauce that’s only good on the burgers. We all ordered sweet tea but changed them for other drinks because they were watered down and no more tea was going to be made since the restaurant was closing soon. For dessert we bought some chocolate chip cookies for the ride home.
The staff wore red Johnnie’s shirts. My mom actually used to work at the Johnnie’s that used to be in Tulsa with the manager of the restaurant and they haven’t seen each other in years so they were able to catch up. The service was great and quick, the staff were very friendly. Some of them chatted with us while some just hung around waiting for closing
