“Hey mom, dad, sit down, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Concerned, they looked back and forth at each other and sat down.
“I have decided to transfer schools.”
This was a decision that had been haunting me for months. I wanted to transfer my senior year from my arts high school to the more traditional high school setting. I had two choices in front of me. One, leave behind my friends, start over, and take a leap of faith. Or two, stick it out and be unhappy for a year. This constant battle seemed to never leave my head.
I knew what I had to do. My grades were dropping and it seemed nearly impossible to get motivated. I recognized something had to change.

I have had to overcome many fears, especially when it comes to making new friends and trying to fit in. But I have been able to experience and participate in activities that had not been offered to me in the past. For example, I have had the opportunity to join many clubs. One of the clubs that has really had in impact on me was called Too Many Cooks. In this club we meet once a month and bake all different forms of food. From there we take all the food we made to a homeless shelter and hand it out to them. I have also had the opportunity to take numerous amounts of new classes to help build back up my GPA and get an idea of what I would like to do in the future.
This transition has made me a more motivated and driven person. I have been able to love and use my creative abilities with dance in a less negative environment allowing me to improve. Although I am still extremely selfless, I now know to put myself, my success, and my happiness first. Due to this switch I have broken out of my shell resulting in many new friends, I work harder than ever before, and I have learned to have a more positive outlook on life.
Although this adjustment has been challenging, it has not only made me stronger and happier, it has helped shape my character into who I am
