Moving to Dominican Republic as a young American came with many challenges. One of the main challenges was crime; crime is one of the biggest problems for tourist. I moved to the Dominican Republic at the age of 11 with my parents. I was in middle school when I had my first close encounter with crime during the summer, a week right before school started. I was robbed by two assailants, one on a motorcycle and the other man was walking. I remember that day in particular; because it was the first time I actually wanted to walk around to get familiar with the neighborhood.
