2. One premise supporting my choice of major is the following: I have previous experience in the health-care nursing field. Throughout my junior year of high school, I worked at an assisted living home facility helping the nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) with their tasks, therefore I have had valuable experience and knowledge prior to nursing in college.
3. A second premise supporting my choice of major is the following: I have a compassionate attitude which is one important characteristic of nursing. Growing up, when my younger siblings are hurt or are in pain, I often reach out to comfort them. Moreover, I frequently comfort my friends in times of need, oftentimes supporting them emotionally and being understanding of their situation.

My response to this objection is the following. It is true that having my mom and sister both as nurses and having several extended family members in the nursing profession as well could of have influenced my decision on my major. Nonetheless, from my previous experiences in a nursing care home, I know that I like the aspects of nursing and that I am pursuing a nursing career for the benefit of myself, not because I feel obligated to. Despite the pressure of becoming known for following in my family of nurse’s footsteps, I convey numerous qualities as that of a nurse. One being compassionate as shown through taking care of my siblings and showing emotional support through my friends. Although there are other health-related career fields, such as being a doctor or a physician assistant, that I could have chosen, nursing allows me to look at the patient as a whole, instead of their diagnosis, allowing for a more holistic care approach.
