I woke to to the smell of bacon. I assumed that Jenna had breakfast already made, as she always does. Bacon and eggs, every Sunday. I walk into the kitchen, Jenna greets me, “ G’morning Christian, scrambled or over easy?”. “Scrambled”, I respond groggily. There's a cup of coffee waiting for me at the head of the table. Just before I go for a drink, Noah and Brittney run to the couch and turn on the TV to watch cartoons. “Morning kids” “Morning Dad,” both kids say simultaneously. I don't know what to do except watching cartoons with Brittney and Noah, so I walk over to the counter where there's a stack of mail waiting there for me. “Bills, Bills, Bills”, I run through my head, until I flip to a different looking envelope. “Whats this”, I say under my breath. It finally stops and I can feel my leg aching, we both see a cave, the entrance covered with vines. We crawl in. I peek through and see the Japanese taking another way down, we go deeper into the cave. We hear the enemy passing by, we’re completely silent for an hour. Clutching our guns close to ourselves. After an hour, we try to radio back to the base but there's no signal. We need to be higher up. We stay the day in the cave, we decide to go to find higher ground at night. We mostly sleep the whole time. Trading shifts. Until it's pitch black outside. We start to head out, first we try to find food because we both are starving.
