Fall Hike in October
I’m running out of my house, slamming the door behind me and shouting, “I’m free!” at the top of my air-filled pink lungs. I get a few weird looks from the neighbors that are outside and a few from even the one’s inside but they’re used to my usual crazy outbursts. I don’t know if I should be worried by that or not. Into my little gray car I go and then it happens. I am speed. Down the winding and twisting roads to Preston, Iowa where I love to go hiking in my grandparents timbers. While I’m driving possibly a ton over the speed limit I scream-sing Pink Floyd on the little cars full volume. There’s no stopping me now, brothers.
(P)My Old Navy flip flops are strolling on a trail of warm colors. Oranges, browns, and bright reds. CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH! The little bits of leaves that have fallen are scratching and getting stuck in my toes, but I don’t mind at all. There is one leaf, two leaves, big leaves and little leaves.Young leaves and old leaves, you get the picture I’m trying to portray. Each leaf is as unique as an honest politician. I smother the small warmth all over my no-makeup, all natural face. The sunlight is shining through the dying trees, which are ironically the most beautiful creatures that I have ever laid my eyes on. My old ripped jeans fit just right with holes in them not manufactured in a factory. GASP! Surprise, surprise. The fuzzy and thick cable knit sweater I’m wearing is what I’ll probably be wearing for the next four months and if he died I would cry until I killed the person who took his life too soon.
