“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” This quote was from Stephen King. Stephen King is an American author of many genres including: contermporary horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. I thought this quote related to how I felt in this class. Though we didn’t have to read a substantially amount, I have learned that in order to grow as a writer, you first must learn. In this class we did two drafts for every paper, letting us grow with each draft. Because of this, I think my idea for writing papers and my imporvement has grown tremendously. With each draft, you can see impovement. I entered this class, College Writing and Research, with some strengths, but many weaknesses. In high school, I have experienced writing classes, but none like this sort. My strengths are understanding of the topic that I am writing about and entering the requirements that I have to fulfill for each paper. Though my weaknesses include: grammer, transitions, first-person usage, and grabbing the reader’s attention. I struggled in this class occasionally due to the assignments and not sure how to come of them. Often, I had trouble with the first thing of my paper, including a strong thesis statement. The thesis statement is made to grab the reader’s attention and I believe that I always did not achieve this role. Occasionally my thesis statement would either be too broad or too narrow.
