High school is one of the greatest pivotal times in a human's life. It is where young adults are able to form their own opinions on the world, find activities they are passionate about, and learn to create fruitful relationships with their peers and teachers. However, I did not initially view high school as a period of time for growth and development. Instead, I saw it simply as another task to complete before I entered the real world. I did not take advantage of all the opportunities around me and I began to find school to be institutionalized or meaningless.
During my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I was a dancer at a local studio and at Arts and Communications Magnet Academy (ACMA). Dancing was fun for me, I met a lot of great friends and was able to express myself through art. I genuinely loved going to ACMA. But, dancing and attending ACMA led me to meet someone who forced me into situations I never expected to be in. Although I wish I had not ever been forced into those circumstances, there is a silver lining to it.
Sometimes high school seems like it will last forever but it is just a fleeting season, and in four years it is over. A lot of people also look forward to leaving high school and going to university. Some see it as an opportunity to get away from their parents and experience new freedoms. Others see it as the first step to being able to learn more about what they want to practice in their future career. Others look forward to impacting the new area in which they are moving to.
When a person is a senior everyone asks them what their plans are for after high school and what they hope to become. I am planning on going to college and I have the option of playing volleyball while in college. I didn’t want to go to school too far away from home, and I got a few offers that were close to home, but I narrowed it down to Heidelberg and Owens to play at. They both offered scholarships and they both have the what I would like to major in so it was a tough decision. I finally decided Owens would be a better fit over Heidelberg.
My entire life has been me looking forward. Always looking forward and rarely looking back. Learning from past occurrences and planning the next; I have been a sure handed planner all my life. Throughout my time in high school, I have been actively involved in various leadership roles within my troupe. This leadership has not been limited to the acting side of the spectrum, but has included both advocacy work and techie work. My freshman year was a year for learning. During this year I began to learn how to build and become a true actor. Looking up to the seniors, they taught me how to properly use a saw and how to explore every inch of the stage.
Braces, pimples and waiting for rides from mom after football practice, this is how many student athletes describe their junior high school years. My junior high school experience did not greatly differ from this standard. However, towards the end of my junior high career, I began transition from childhood to adulthood. Specifically, when I made the decision in eighth grade to switch schools and made a personal commitment to play high school football.

I knew that not focusing on my school work would come to bite me back one day. I just did not know when. Getting this report card was a warning to me - it made me realize how fortunate I was to receive an education. I was hardly the ordinary typical 7th grader down the road. If I did not start staying on top of my work, I would not lead the future I wanted.
Almost getting out of High School I’m sure everyone tries to decide if they should continue their education or stop. I thought of that a lot before graduating in 2013 I’m not much of a school person there are many other things I rather be doing then homework or learning honestly if my parents let me choice for myself leaving High School I probably wouldn’t attend college but I’m thankful that they forced me to go so I can have a future. My reasons like everyone else’s to attend college were because I want a career for myself. I want a job where I don’t have to live from paycheck to paycheck like my parents do.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.
