Personal Narrative: My Journey Of Migrating To Canada

The clock hanging in Toronto Pearson International Airport dinged exactly 4:00 pm, and my new life had begun. It was May 1, 2006 when the Boeing 787 (international flight: India-Canada) accommodating my parents-Chetan and Hina Patel -, and myself landed in Toronto, Canada.

This entire journey of immigrating to Canada began in 2001, the year I had been born. At the time, my parents and I lived in India. The Patel background generally originates from a family of farmers. It was not until the generation of my parents that my family stopped their farming business, and moved to the city of Vadodara. Although to this day we own farms in our native village, Timberwa. At the time that we started our immigration process in 2001, we lived in Vadodara, Gujarat.

My parents were very well off in India as the owners of 3 houses and lots of land. Chetan Patel (my father) had a Bachelor 's in Organic Chemistry, and Hina Patel(my mother) had a Bachelor’s in Arts. He was working in one of the biggest companies In India, Alembic Limited, as a chemist (research, development,and analysis department). On the other hand, my mom was a housewife. Generally speaking, we had quite a stable family life.

Today, family and I are reaping the benefits of moving to Canada. My kin enjoys a much stronger economy: they hold amazing jobs, they are the proud owners of 2 businesses, and they own a couple of houses. All of us bask in the pleasures of space, cleanliness, peace, security, and many more freedoms. Out of my entire family, I probably benefited the most from this move. Here in Canada I am allowed a voice, an opinion. No one treats me as if I am below boys. At school, I am not thought to be stupid simply because of my gender. I will be eternally grateful to my parents for giving me a life where I can be who I am. I can express myself as the strong-willed person
