Hippocrates once stated, “healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” The ideology of Hippocrates to my knowledge is that, as time passes by, the body can heal minor wounds however, sometimes it is crucial to seek help when the health outcome is a great ordeal. The opportunity to seek help at the right time can have fundamentally affect on one’s mind and body. Traditionally, society cannot live without proper health. Health in the perception of overall social, environmental, physical, and mental outlook. As well as my interest in the health field at a young age, I dedicated most of my summers working for the Boston Public Health Commission and volunteering with underserved population like the new refugee and immigrant arrivals. From the age of 14 until now, I had the experience in working for a non-profit organization that advocated for the welfare of people who could not help themselves. I have seen the many faces of people who need the necessary assistance to live a better life. I worked with many refugees and immigrants who struggled to provide for their children and live paycheck to paycheck when government assistances were limited. I worked with population that suffered with PTSD coming from war-torn countries like Somalia, Burma, Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Palestine.
