Fortunately for me, I was contacted not much after about an internship at Montefiore Medical Center. I would come to learn that Montefiore Medical Center is the teaching hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
At my physician office, the staff always dress and act professionally. I have been going to my physician since I was 6, I have even job shadowed my physician. I do not recall a time my physician or his staff has ever been unprofessional. They are always dressed in scrubs or business casual. I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program. Why I Chose Phlebotomy I chose phlebotomy because it seemed to fit me the best in my current situation. For my Diverse Field Experience this semester, I spent fifteen hours at the Mclean County Juvenile Detention Center. This particular center was occupied by about 8-14 juveniles at a time, all depending on court dates and occupancy of other nearby detention centers. This center usually had 3 staff members working the shift every time I went, which was seven to nine on weekday afternoons. I was intrigued to go to at this time because I thought it would be the time of the day were the juveniles had no school work or other obligations to do while I was there. I wanted to see what they liked to do in the free time before bed, the only stipulation being mandatory snack time at eight pm.
At the beginning of my sophomore year, August 2015, I fractured my left ankle. My second season of cross country had just begun. The whole team had a Saturday practice at Atlanta Memorial Park. We came to this park for a time trial. Not being able to run was going to be a challenge for me.
Every day I work I walk into unknown territory, not knowing what could happen at any given time. The hospital is a very hazardous and precautionary place. Generally working with admitted patients, I come in contact with the same patient several times a day and many times a week to draw a persons blood.
