Personal Narrative: My Symbolic Intervention

When I was young, I liked to be creative. In primary school, I often used scrap to create small equipment. For example, I used a toy car motor and other waste products to make a small fan; I used Christmas bells, small bulbs, batteries and other waste to make a small lamp. At that time, this was just hobby. Later, I began using my creativity to solve practical problems. For example, over time, the cooling performance of a laptop will decline, and the laptop becomes very hot while at work. The operation of any large program can especially lead to overheating and automatic shutdown in the hot summer months. Some people use a laptop cooling pad. But in the hot summer, the air temperature will be 90 degrees Fahrenheit. A cooling pad blowing out hot wind is ineffective, as cooling pads are only a fan, yet have no cooling capacity. …show more content…

I thought, if I put ice below the cooling pad to cool the air, then it can blow cold wind to cool the laptop. The next problem, however, is that the ice melts; so I filled some 500ml water bottles with water and placed them into the freezer. I then cut four cans to the same height as the diameter of the water bottle and placed them under the four legs of the laptop cooling pad. After the four bottles of water froze to ice, I placed them below the cooling pad. This created a cooling function for the laptop cooling pad. When the ice in the bottle melts, I simply place them back in the freezer and replace them with other frozen bottles. This can be recycled. I told all my friends about this idea, and they all felt that my design was great. I am excited to continue using my innovations to help make an impact, and I know that the University of California is the perfect place to expand my
