Personal Narrative: My Trip To America

I woke up this morning very excited yet very scared. We are going to America today. “Alexander,” my mom called waiting for me to come to the kitchen for breakfast. I wasn't very hungry, mostly because I was nervous. I went to the kitchen do find my father and sister eating. “Mom I'm not very hungry right now,” I said. “Why not,” asked my mom. “It's just that I'm really nervous to go to America,” I explained. “Ok well then start packing, we leave in one hour,” my mom said excusing me from the table. I went into my room and started to pack.

I went out to see what the commotion was about. I looked of the ship to see the Statue of Liberty. It looked so beatiful and I nearly started crying myself. As I was about to go back to our room, I felt a hand touch me. “We made It,” I told my father.

All the first and second class passengers got off the ship. Doctors then boarded the ship and checked the steerage passengers for disease. After that, a small ferry boat came and took us to Ellis Island. My family and I were barely able to fit. It was a tight squeeze, but it was worth it. My mom looked me in the eye. I knew what she was thinking, so I nodded back at her.

When we arrived an officer was shouting, “Walk down the gangplank to the main building.” As we entered, they passed out number identity tags. We then entered the baggage room. We left our bags here, and went to the registry room. When I entered I saw a few doctors standing on top of the windy stairs. One of them shouted, “We are going to see everybody climb the stairs, and anybody having a hard time will be chalked.” This was a piece of cake for my family and I, but not for some other
