It doesn’t seem too long ago since the day you dropped me off at Iowa State University. For you two, it probably seemed like I was leaving forever, but I returned home many, many times to enjoy your presence. When I’m not at home however, I find myself walking around different parts of Ames to find comfort when I miss you.
On the very first weekend I spent here at Iowa State, Austin and I went for a walk. We came upon this nice walking trail that runs along the river and ends up at a park with a skate park next to it. The very first time we walked on this trail, we went under a train bridge with a train rolling over it. When we stood under the bridge, it was so loud that you could not hear anything but the train and its echo. While we stood there, I noticed on the concrete walls a bunch of spray paint writing barely noticeable to the eye at about 9 p.m. at night. Austin and I were not the first two people to ever stand there and hang out for a bit.
Over the last couple of weeks and all of last semester, this trail and river would be a great place to go to ease my stress and frustration. The cool, rushing river has the most amazing feeling of almost being carefree. Austin and I live in the same Court; he lives in Willow and I in Elm. We usually meet at his place, just because it is easier. We walk down onto Beach road and turn right onto Lincoln. You then keep walking on Lincoln until you run into University Blvd. Really, it not that hard to get to because you can basically see it from Austin’s. Once you are on University Blvd, you are going to want to take a right and you will see a nice walking trail. Go on the trail and walk back towards the direction our dorms would be.
