For fifteen years, I put my heart, effort, and soul into my band Murky Waters. I made it into a career that supports my wife, my stepdaughter, and my parents. Murky Waters is what saved my family and me from poverty in the ghetto of Warsaw, Poland, and it’s what saved me from giving up on life entirely before I met my wife. I met her only a year after Murky Waters began and she was introduced to me by my best friend and drummer, Tony. Anka was two months pregnant with my stepdaughter, Antonia, at the time we met.
For Father The night you left, Mother started sleeping with her bible under her pillow and a gun on your side of the bed. While Brother and I were at school, Mother saw a ghost fly down the stairs and into the basement. She told her white friend about it, how after she saw it, she opened all of the windows and prayed through the house. Spread holy oil over every doorway like
I never believed that my mom and dad had gotten a divorce, mainly I just thought it was a nightmare. I went through stages of
As I slowly walked over to where my mom was sitting I dreaded the conversation that was about to happen. As soon as she handed me the phone I said “hi” and after a long silence I finally heard my father’s booming voice through the phone. “Hey sweetheart, I’m sorry to hear about you and your boyfriend.” When I heard this I couldn’t help but fight back the tears. Crying was never acceptable so I already knew better then to let him hear me cry.
While I was trying to catch my breath, my grandma was pulling me away from the door. I didn’t know what to do. my grandma
On Sunday mornings, you wake up early and nothing is on television besides Judge Judy, Divorce Court, or Judge Mathis. The Judges are ruthless and do not seem to have sympathy for anyone. They often yell to boost the ratings of the show. This is merely just an exaggeration of how the court systems work. Judges don’t only have sympathy for the defendants that aren’t financially stable enough to pay for their lawsuit.
When I was 9 years old, I found out that I was not like everyone else. I was in Shop N’ Save with my dad and my sister and we ended up walking past a blood pressure machine. My sister and I wanted to play with it, and usually my dad wouldn’t let us, but that day he ended up saying yes. We went back to the machine. My sister went first and then it was my turn.
I'm at the grocery store, watching this other kid try to win a prize from the claw machine when I hear my mom yell out for me to come over to her. I run back to aisle 7 to see my mom with a confused and stressed look on her face as she tried to figure out how to pay using her card and the people behind her slightly annoyed. I tried to tip toe to see what the machine said but ended up standing in the cart while my mom held it still as I interrupted what it asked to her. I press the buttons as she answers, trying to hurry to avoid irritating the people behind us. As we finished, I could hear my mom sigh of relief then we headed out.
It was August 6,2011, I saw my mom walking back and forth in my bedroom to make sure that I packed everything I needed, before I leave to catch my flight. I wanted to see how she felt about the situation. So, I decided to read her face expressions, but it was really hard; my mom is really good in hiding her emotions. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes to hours; I kept looking at her but there was nothing, I couldn 't see any emotions.
I never thought this would have happened. Why did my life have to turn this way? Those were the thoughts in my head when I found out my parents were going to get a divorce. Why did it have to happen to me? I was a cheerful, ten year old boy who never fretted about anything until that point in my life.
In my brief life, I have overcome a lot of adversity. My mom fled Mexico with her three young children to escape domestic violence. When we came to this country we had only a few personal belongings and the promise of a better future. We came to this country and lived in a small trailer with no toilet other than a bucket, and no shower except for the one that was lent to us from the kindness of a stranger, our new neighbor. As a single parent, my mother had to work day and night to support us.
Divorce changes everyone. When my parents broke the news that they were getting divorced, my brother and I cried for hours. I was only in 8th grade and didn’t understand why they would want to leave each other. I knew they had their problems, their parenting styles would always conflict, and they would argue loudly about the simplest problems. However, it never occurred to me that they would stop loving one another and would no longer want to be married.
My number one greatest accomplishment was raising my four daughters on my own. (Opinion) Each of my daughters have graduated high school and have full-time employment. (Fact) Raising children as a single parent is a difficult task (belief) however, I kept each daughter focused on school and social activities enough so that they didn’t get into any legal trouble or become a teenage mother.
Gaming is the only thing I like to do. In only 11th grade, I’m sick of school, I hate it, all the people and the teachers. I’ve decided to quit high school. On November 15, 2616, that was the day my life changed. Walking home from school, I look up at the sky.
I was putting my Halloween costume on when I heard something moving in my closet. I turn to the closet door half dressed with a curious look on my face. In my mind, it being Halloween, I thought I was just hearing things or my little brother was playing a prank on me. I walk out the door to my room, down the stairs and as I was about to walk out the front door my father caught me, “Where are you going?” he asked “Out, it’s
