It was almost in, I tried to wiggle it a little bit and suddenly it slipped! It glided over the slick oyster like slipping on wet moss. The blade was so sharp that I didn’t even feel it go in until it went all the way through. I was so shocked that I dropped the oyster and quickly pulled the knife out. My hand was covered in blood! Wait - Before I get into the good part I should probably start at the beginning - right? The room was filled with a smell of fresh cut pine as I woke up early in the morning. None of my family was awake so I decided to cautiously sneak downstairs and go out to our deck to look at the beautiful sunrise on the lake. We had 13 people. That meant that we had to fit 6 people into one boat and 7 people in another. I was so glad that I was in the boat with 6 people but my friend’s dad was the driver - and I’m just being honest when I say that he worked at a desk job all his life (If you get my drift). When we were weaving through the twists and turns of the marshy stream we constantly got stuck in the weeds and we kept hitting colossal boulders. I was sitting up front navigating. I would shout out,”STEER LEFT STEER LEFT NOW!!!” Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. One time when we were turning under a bridge, we hit the side of the boat and everyone almost fell over. I’m not sure if our screams were of terror or laughter..maybe a bit of both. After about 2 hours of fishing, one person in my boat had a really big fish on her line. When we got the fish into the boat with the net, we sat the net down on the edge of the boat. When they were taking the hook out of the fish's mouth, the net plummeted into the water and sank to the bottom. All of the adult sat speechless and the kids eye’s were as big as the moon. I thought to myself, now how are we going to get the fish into the boat? Eventually, we searched for the net with pike lures. It was a fruitless
