California History: Mission Santa Clara De Asis When looking at present day America it is difficult to picture what is was like just a few hundred years ago, it is hard to believe that such a vast amount of land could change as drastically as it did in such a short amount of time. This huge change that America went through was caused by the colonization of the multiple European empires. When it came to the colonization of the ‘new world’ and the assimilation of its native people, one of the most common methods was the use of religion. One of the reasons most of the European empires saw the Native Americans as savages and of lower status was because of how greatly their religion differed from the colonists. Sacramento is one of the oldest cities in the western region of the United States and Sacramento is filled with rich history. The city and the capital of the great state of California dates back to 1839 when a man named John Sutter created a small rugged town that he would use for farming and business opportunities. John Sutter’s intentions and thoughts were to be given a Mexican land grant, however, as his small town grew, more opportunities started to rise. Due to the large amount of gold in California, Sutter’s town was officially established in 1849 and it was named Sacramento. When the city was first established, it consisted of small shanty shacks and poorly constructed wooden buildings.
In the late 1700s, the Spanish government wanted to teach the Indians that were living in California about Christianity and in order for the friars to teach the Indians, the government decided to build missions. Friar Junipero Serra was chosen by the Spanish government to build 21 missions in California which was considered the New Spain, but before the 9th mission was build he died. Friar Fermin Lasuen continue with the mission of building the rest of the missions. San Juan Bautista mission was not in their plants to build, but there was a big gap between the San Carlos Borromeo Del Rio Carmelo Mission and Santa Clara de Asis Mission. The Spanish did not felt safe to travel from mission to mission if there was a big gap, they were afraid of the Indians that controlled that territory and had not been taught about Christianity, so Friar Lasuen and the Franciscans decided to make the mission of San Juan Bautista to cover the gap between missions.

The lake near Cypress City would soon be filled with the boats of old fishermen. Cypress City was not, in fact, a city. It was a run down town in Maryland, too old to be of any use to the world.
Thornton Wilder has written two different and unique novels in his lifetime. The two novels that I am discussing are Our Town and The Bridge of San Luis Rey. These two novels have both similar and different qualities.
I will start by showing students how Laredo was in the past and how has it grown among the years. Laredo started with a small population and now we are a big city with a high population. Many people do not have the education that they would like to have.
