Keyboard clicks and whispers across the cubicles fills the office. People discussing their weekend plans, what they are doing after work, and what they are currently shifting. “Hey Jerry,” Todd appeared in Jerry’s cubicle enterance. “Do you have the Anderson report done?” “I finished it this morning, I was just about to send it over.” Jerry responded without taking his eyes off his computer screen. “You’re the man.” Todd walked over and put his hand on Jerry’s shoulder. “Are you still coming for drinks tonight with me and Jean.” “I’ll be there boss.” Jerry grins with his eyes still locked to his computer screen. “Funny. Both sides of Memory Shifting were heard but neither made any strides in the ongoing debate.” The radio was turned back down as it began to play music. “Can you believe that?” Jean said disgusted. “If they would just try it, understand the benefits, their minds would be changed.” Jerry adjusted himself in his seat. “Maybe that’s what they don’t want to try it. They are afraid that it would change their minds.” Todd leaned forward and locked eyes with Jerry.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Jean squinted her eyes.
“You’ve heard the conspiracy theories. Perhaps the ones who oppose Memory Shifting believe that the evil government and corporations use Memory Shifting to control us in someway.” Todd leaned back in his seat and crossed his legs. “But, who really believes in that sort of thing, right?” Todd looked at Jean and Jerry before pulling out his phone to check the news.

The bus stops and five people exit the bus, the three continue to walk a block to the bar. Todd brings three beers to the small round table. “Three hundred year anniversary of Guinness, what a time to be alive.” Todd grabbed his bottle and drank half of it in one swig.

He entered his apartment and left his coat and bag at the door before sitting down at his computer and loading his Memory Shifting. “Three hours on inane memories and 55 minutes of memory for review.” Jerry read quietly to himself. Jerry looked at the memory for review as it was writing the Anderson report and the bus ride to the bar. Jerry decided to shift the Anderson report and keep the bus ride. “Three and a half hours in memory to be shifted.” Jerry shifted in three and half hours of the book he is reading. Jerry closed his eyes as it recommended and an alert popped up on the screen that read “You are now on page 107.” Jerry went back to his room and read more of his book before going to sleep. It is a typical day at the office. Keyboard clicks and whispers. “Hey I saw you guys going out last night. You could’ve invite me?” Will from IT joked with Jerry. “I didn’t go out last night.” Jerry shrugged “What are you talking about? I saw you, Jean, and Todd get on bus 50 heading downtown. Figured you guys went out.” Jerry shook his head. “I got on the 45 after work, I think you’re confusing me with somebody else.” Jerry turned in his chair to face
