Snaider Family Scholarship Being an Athlete there can be many times where you could find yourself in a difficult situation. Over time you learn how to handle the pressure and are better able to cope with it even though it is still a difficult and stressful situation. A time that stands out to me as my team being in a difficult situation was last year during the Softball Championship. That year was a great year for our team we were the champions of our conference and had made it all the way to the State Championship for 1A schools. We had already won a game and lost a game to our opponents and this was the final game.

I would like to take a moment to talk about the two most important and influential people in my life my parents Sabrina and Darren Hardnick. I live in a minuscule town in Western North Carolina, where southern traditions are very important to the majority of the population. Such as drinking sweet tea, eating biscuits and gravy, and going to church. Here within one of those important traditions lies why I had to take such a significant risk. At the beginning of my eighth grade year of middle school, only a mere thirteen years of age, I knew I was different. However, what made me different would surely turn many against me.
Sun beaming through the window hitting me right in the face, I was tired of just lying in bed this is not what I called fun. It was the last weekend of a long break and I was so upset with myself for letting it all go to waste. I was going to make sure this weekend was the best. Thinking of all the things we could possibly do as a family, I quickly remember that was all had season passes to Six Flags, which were also going to waste.
“Dad, can we, can we, can we?” that is what my brother and I have been asking our dad for the past two days that our family has been the lake house. I’m not just talking about my parents and my brother and I, I mean the whole Sauer family, Uncle Craig, Uncle Shane, Grandma, Grandpa, our cousins Lexine, Cassidy, and molly. When just watching someone run makes you smile so much that you are overwhelmed with happiness, it’s special. That’s what the Hoyt family did to me. Every weekend Rick’s dad pushes him through a triathlon or marathon, and it’s very inspirational to see. It’s empowering to see someone so dedicated to their son who was once called hopeless. That makes them a good role model for anyone, even if you don’t have a disability.
Older people tell stories all the time about their childhoods and what it was like back then, but do people really listen? I find myself asking this questions when I think of my own grandparents. It makes me wonder if I really know them or not. My Grandma Shirley is a 77 year old outgoing woman who makes everyone laugh. Born in the 1940’s definitely allowed her to experience many aspects of life that I wasn't able to experience myself.
