After I turn a paper in I think to myself: Did I do enough research about this? , Did I tell them the main points or just the details? , Did I even tell them enough of the topic I researched?.
The article “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott is a simple article discussing how most well-written essays must come from a “shitty first draft.” Lamott simple yet effective organization, casual use of language, and style along with humor sells her concept that the scattered first draft does not have to be perfect and is necessary to create a well-written essay. In the article, Lamott uses simple organization. She begins the article with a brief introduction of the concept that few people can just sit down and write a perfect, beautiful essay or book on the spot.

If one were to ask students about the process of writing undoubtedly there would be many who would express that they found the exercise difficult. Perhaps there would even be great scholars who would give the same answer. One problem that plagues writers is something known as “writer’s block”, the condition of being unable to think of what to write next. Richard Wilbur in his poem entitled “The Writer” details a story of his daughter attempting to write while experiencing writer’s block. Although writing may sometimes be difficult, the challenge can be overcome by a little help from outside sources, hard work, and determination.
Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.

I can get off topic and not focus on the main point so having a list in front of me on the steps for what my paper needs to include would help me out as a beginner in the writing world. Individual reflection and assessment is a vital component for growing as a writer. By analyzing my own strengths and weaknesses, I can further develop the steps I should take in order to grow as a writer. Through completion of the varying assignments in English class this semester, I have a heightened perception of areas that I am strong along with areas that I need to improve. The powerful guidance of those who I sought help from in my journey to improve my writing made a positive lasting impact on my academic future. Through becoming aware of my strengths and weaknesses, endeavoring into a variety of writing styles, and implementing both what I have learned along with what I still need to improve on, I have gained skill that can elevate me to new realms of academic accomplishment.
One thing that makes writing so time consuming is writers block. The definition of writer’s block is: “The condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. I struggle with this a lot and that adds on time to how long it takes for me to write papers.” This usually occurs in my opening and closing paragraphs. This is the main reason why the majority of my opening paragraphs are weak.
Like right now I am fighting going on a tangent. I also do not like how I structed my paper. I am a very basic writer, because that is what I was taught in grade school. I have a very definite introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. It is a very basic way to write, and I feel like my audience could have been more influenced by my writing if I made my paper flow more.
Within six classes, I began to understand why my writing appeared to be unorganized and difficult to follow. I was lacking structure around my thoughts and ideas. Professor Hinds explained to the class that an outline would ease our efforts in converting our ideas into words. I soon realized that a detailed and concise outline was the answer to the majority of my writing struggles. Prior to my North Georgia writing class, I jumped into my assignments by writing in stream of thoughts.
I find that I usually have more success when writing about something that I truly enjoy and struggle when talking about something I do not really care about. Both my parents were minimal to no help with writing
I 've learned that reading and writing can take me any where I want it to go. I can explore my mind to go anywhere by imagination, by reading and writing. However,My reading and writing experience since I was a kid until now I still having a difficulty. When I was 3 years old my mom started me to learn how to read and write. At first, I 'm having a difficulty to read and write but my mom tried her best to taught me.
Also not leaving people wondering about what is happening makes a good piece of writing. I know when I have written something well, when I feel very confident in it. As I’m reading through it, I want to keep reading it. Also when I don’t feel the need to go back and add more words or details because I already had. That is how I know when I have written my best.
