Personal Narrative: Tip Up At Our Cabin

“Tip Up!” My dad yells as we are ice fishing up at our cabin. We are on Little Crooked Lake, we have never iced fished on this lake before, but we had good luck on there in the summer so we decided to try it again in the winter. We drove down the road to where the road cuts off to the boat landing, it wasn’t plowed so we backed down with the truck. We ended up getting stuck with the truck, we just unloaded the truck and walked the rest. We got out to the ice, it felt good so we drilled the first hole and there was about 1 ½ feet of ice. We drilled more holes, Dad was on the ice auger, Jake, Aiden, and I we are setting up the tip ups. The whole time I was thinking it was a big northern because that's what we were catching before. We were all surprised that it was a muskie, we knew that there were muskies in there and there was some big ones too. This one wasn’t the biggest one that we’ve caught, but it was my first one too. He was a 36 ½ incher it wasn’t a bad size. We threw it back because for one, they are really bad tasting and two, you can only keep them if they are under 40 inches in that lake. The rest of the day was fun because we caught a lot more fish and I may have gotten a little bit grumpy because after I caught the muskie Jake and Aiden pushed me down a lot more it made me mad but I still had a lot of fun. My mom always talks about catching a muskie, but she doesn’t fish so I picked on her because I caught one before her. That day was the best day of ice fishing I have ever been a part of because first we got stuck with the truck and my mom got all scared, then we got out there and started setting up and Aiden almost fell in the hole that Jake didn’t clean out yet, next we started catching some eating size northern, and the best part of the day was when I caught my 36 ½ inch muskie.
