For all of the summer simulations, I was able to come on time and maintain a professional behavior with my peers and patient. For communication, I find myself being confident and relaxed compared to how I felt at the beginning of the summer simulation. For example, during subacute, my partner and I was able to provide patient education on the BIPAP machine to a patient actor and during the simulation, I never felt uncomfortable or nervous while delivering the education. For this week I would give myself a score of 4.
A second paid opportunity I have had serving children has been working as summer camp counselor for the past three summers. Each summer since May 2013, Warren W. Willis United Methodist Summer Camp has provided me with the opportunity to mentor a wide variety of children ranging in ages from rising fourth grade to newly graduated high school seniors. Here I have taken on many roles of mentor, advocate, listener, friend, small group leader, activities facilitator, etc. Here I have interacted with children and adolescents of all backgrounds and cultures.
“How would your best friends describe you? I’m like an innocent rabbit hopping in the forest.” I was thirteen when I had my first interview for a summer program at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. I was ambitious and certain that I was going to be accepted with my charisma and accomplishments. Successful?
I reached out to my high school’s summer school program last summer and volunteered as a tutor for the majority of the summer. There, I tutored in various subjects in math to summer school students, helping a lot of students pass their required coursework. I continued my tutoring agenda by helping ELL students learn English that very summer at a Minneapolis high school. Called the Summer Academy, the summer school program was designed to help new immigrant students receive an academic boost before the school year began. I was able to ease the learning process by helping several students by conversing in a language they were fluent in, Somali.
INTRODUCTION ON SOCRATES To begin with, Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who was born 470 BC in Athens, Greece. Laying the foundations of Western Philosophy, Socrates is still seen as a bewildering figure. There is little information about his writings and he is mostly recognized by his students Plato and Xenophon as well as through the plays of Aristophanes. These plays provide an irreplaceable and vivid portrayal of Socrates ' philosophy and personality.
Like most people I too have faced many barriers in education making it hard to grow and learn both in class and in life. Most things you learn are at an early age from your parents and throughout life in school. Many of the information we learn as people come from learning them ourselves. We also change and grow from things we have been through. A lot of times we adapt to our surroundings whether it be a place or the people we’re around learning new things.
Work with children Throughout my high school and college years, I have had several experiences with children that have all played a part in shaping my love for working with children. During high school, I spent two summers nannying for two young school aged children. Working with these siblings really made me realize how much fun I have working with children and watching them grow. Once I came to college, I started another babysitting job working with two four year old twin girls.
Canada is a diverse country and includes people of many religions, languages and cultural groups. We need to understand and appreciate the cultures and build a relationship with people from cultures other than our own. Understanding and recognizing differences in religion, sexual orientation, parenting and class background will help us to prevent racial and ethnic biases and create a climate that welcomes differences. Also, building relationships are critical in building diverse communities to achieve significant goals. If I feel comfortable to talk about my own culture, then I think I will become a better at listening to others when they speak about their cultures.
As a seventh grader I attended a three day overnight event known as June Jam. Little did I know this camp would help me to discover my passion and change my life. This camp introduced me to drug and alcohol abuse prevention. I left this camp inspired to make a change. I joined high school STOP as a freshman and I immediately started to get involved.
