Teachers are one of the largest forces a child will encounter in their life to help them in their journey of self. As a teacher it is important to understand this and be able to create a learning environment for the needs of all. I accept that my philosophy is mine and keep my mind open to the knowledge of others in my career as an educator. I consider myself to be eclectic in my methods of education. As a lifelong learner I am reliant on my teachers to help me develop new theories and methods to help the individual student succeed in their educational career. The process of play through different stages such as parallel play, solitary play and collaborative play are essential in the education process and development in children. My classroom will encompass structured and unstructured play to help students learn and develop. Play will include this such as children working together in playing an educational game, doing theater together and art. Less structured play as free playtime inside or outside of the classroom will be used daily. During play I will observe my students to see how they interact with each other, how they are developing physically and emotional and use these observations to develop the best possible educational environment. Reggio Emilia Program views family participation as crucial part of education. Her program also has that attitude that education should be fun and full of art, music, and play. This is why I will be incorporating parts of her program into my classroom. The Reggio Emilia program expects children to document and describe their works by means such as photographs and art media. This will give children the opportunity to use certain technologies in their learning process. I believe this helps children get a full experience of what they are learning. Professionals and family members will be able to visual asses and understand the works of these children. Alongside her work I will use the views of Friedrich Froebel’s expressed importance of benefits of play, circle time and musical experience.
