Throughout my time in Writing and Composition, I feel that I have grown and changed as a writer. I believe that I have finally surpassed my fear of writing and am able to write papers confidently. We started off the beginning of the year by writing college essays. Me being the doubtful writer that I once was, felt terrified to be writing essays that could possibly determine my future. With the help of the “show don’t tell” techniques and the sensory detailed writings, I was able to master kills that helped me write some amazing college essays. Not only did these skills help me in the essay process, these techniques are tools that I will take with me to college and use for the rest of my life. Not knowing these words had such different meanings, I really enjoyed learning the distinctions between them. For example, I learned that space is something abstract, without any substantial meaning. While place refers to how people are aware of/attracted to a certain piece of space. A place can be seen as space that has a meaning. With the great knowledge and understanding of space and place I am now able to write more complex papers. However, my least favorite unit was form vs. function. I felt that this unit was very difficult for me to grasp on too, and frankly I still don’t quite understand it. I would’ve liked if we spent more time with this unit so I had a better understanding. The most important strategy of writing that I will definitely be bringing forward with me next year is the writing outline we used for the ELIC paper. I felt that the outline helped me tremendously and made the writing process go a lot more smoothly. I liked how I was able to jot down my thoughts beforehand and then use them later throughout the paper. Overall, the outline helped the paper flow and acted as a very guiding
