My time in ALC taught me that to be a bystander is not an option. Thanks to the multiple experiences that I gained directly or indirectly with ALC, I have come to see the impact that my actions may have in others around me. A true leader does not stop when the job has been completed, but focus on finding where there is a need and puts effort on ending that need. I see my leadership experiences in high school not as activities I did to make it to college or to brag about later in life. I see Leadership Development as training for what is about to come. When I did Earthwatch over the summer, I saw the true impact that leadership has. I was able to apply my abilities and skills in an environment with a direct effect on scientific research. I desire to volunteer with English learners in schools nearby Berkeley, I desire to encourage latinos to believe that they belong in a top tier college through Raices. My goals are simple to describe, but hard to achieve. I desire to be a positive factor on people's lives even at the expense of my own. I desire to see those in my community succeed in a world that have limited them for soo long. I want to explore and understand other cultures to learn the best out of them and transmit that to the members of my community. In order to do this I must learn before and there is no better way of learning than through first hand experience. Therefore I already started talks with leaders at Berkeley that will help me to develop the necessary abilities to succeed in my goals. Raices (recruitment and cultural organization), Bridges (college access project), Hermanos Unidos ( cultural club and fraternity) are just the organizations I know I will be joining the coming Fall semester, I know for sure there will be more in my time in Berkeley. There is work to get done in my community, and in order to do the best I can I must learn.
