A meaningful contribution I have made in my community is through my involvement with my church in the Faith Formation program. I take part in helping freshman and sophomores in high school prepare themselves for confirmation. All the high school students at the Church of St. Michael in Prior Lake meet every Wednesday night and talk about our faith and how we live it in our everyday lives. My role is to be a table leader and act as a role model and a help the confirmation candidates become more active in their faith lives. Not only do I help the candidates learn more about their faith lives, but it also helps me, as a leader, to dig deeper into my faith and learn how to live through God in new ways. Quest is a weekend retreat that consists of testimonies, humorous and serious skits, prayer, reconciliation, adoration, and so much more. As a leader, I watch the apprehensive freshman walk through the doors on a Friday night and find their friends and act like they are “too cool” for this. Little do these cavalier freshmen know that their lives will be changed within a matter of hours. It is my job to become acquainted with them and learn about who they are as a person so I know how to help them when it comes to expanding their faith lives. The first night of Quest is always the most fun to watch, because we see the “Questers” transform from the self-absorbed people they are, to becoming caring individuals who yearn for a stronger relationship with God. I didn’t believe that after my first Quest my relationship with God wouldn’t become any stronger, but I was utterly wrong. Every Quest helps everyone who attends, leaders and “Questers” alike, develop a stronger relationship regardless of the amount of Quests we attend. After Quest, there is a remarkable difference in the attitudes of the candidates and they are much more open to learning about their
