As a junior in high school, it is the time to seek what my future holds has finally arrived. College has become a reality. A young child always visualizes himself/herself in a dream job that is normally unrealistic, and personally, that dream career will turn into my reality. The dream I have had since a young age is to become a teacher. To add on to that dream, I aspire to coach volleyball for high school students. I have always desired to work with children and I would love to educate generations to come. In the future ahead, I plan to attend West Chester University of Pennsylvania to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education of middle school grades; ideally, my ultimate goal is to become a teacher for fourth or fifth grade and to coach volleyball. …show more content…

The degree that I have a passion for is the B.S. Education in Middle Grades Preparation, Grades 4-8. I am one who plans to teach either grades four or five in an elementary school. With this degree, it will provide one with a certificate to teach grades four through six, and in selected areas in grades seven and eight will be available. This gives a broad understanding in general education, and knowledge and skills to teach children and young education (“B.S. in Education”). As a student under this degree, some required classes include English Composition, mathematics, Public Speaking, Interdisciplinary Requirements, and Diverse Communities (“Department”). If I decided to get more specific in my studies and go into a subject matter, West Chester University offers history, math, and science courses to become a course teacher. Benefits of a full-time employee are medical, dental, pharmaceutical, possible eye care, and a paid percentage of the medical costs. Many districts give different options of medical benefits packages. To add, life insurance is included in most if not all packages as well. After retirement, the teacher receives a percentage of the last three years of their salaries. Furthermore, if a teacher is to join the teachers’ union, they will get a pay into the pension.
If I am allowed the opportunity to coach volleyball, the salaries for a high school varsity coach averages to $8,000 and junior varsity or freshmen coach comes out to $4,000. Middle school coaches normally average a $2,900 salary for any sport. Every district pays different based on how big the team is, the results, and how long the season is. Lastly, younger children have a shorter season which results in less pay (Reicher). Whether my career involves younger children or maturing teens, I will be pleased to coach any
