Korea University Study Statement

As a first-generation immigrant, I am grateful for the wonderful prospects that are given to me by this country. However, I have always dreamed of advancing through my college career with the opportunity to study abroad. The once in a lifetime experience one receives from studying abroad is incomparable to simply book a travel for a vacation. In order to truly appreciate a country, I want to experience it from the perspective of its own citizens by immersing myself in its culture and customs.

Education is not only highly valued in the South Korean culture, but it is also considered as a crucial component of socioeconomic success. The South Korean education system is rigorous yet effective; with more than 85% of high school graduates entering college upon graduation, many praise the education system adopted in South Korea. In order to broaden my knowledge in challenging ways, I hope to experience the South Korean approach to higher education from a personal perspective. As one of the three most prominent universities in South Korea, Korea University is the perfect place for me to undertake such goal. I plan on participating in an introductory Korean language course during my study at the university. Residing in a non-English speaking country independently will inevitably enhance my language learning capabilities. Moreover, being able to communicate in a variety of languages will lead to more career opportunities in the near future. Therefore, I wish to expand my academic background by enriching my knowledge in an unfamiliar environment where I can take on new challenges. I believe my future experience at the prestigious university will not simply be enlightening, but will also be truly life
