In the part of the world I come from, school education has become a political football which is used for propaganda and political purposes, but I believe that there should be a moral dimension to the profession, and it should serve to liberate and promote quality and equality of people in society. Historically, schools have been the stage for social change, providing a venue to promote and accelerate new ideas. In Rethinking Our Classrooms (1994), Wayne Au, Bill Bigelow and Stan Karp write that “classrooms can be places of hope, where students and teachers gain glimpses of the kind of society we could live in and where students learn the academic and critical skills needed to make it a reality.” And as a teacher helping students or people, …show more content…
They had good intentions of making a positive impact on students learning from the results I achieved, but they lack the motivation to do so, due to too many poorly run professional development activities. It was this moment that I felt the need to help practicing and future teachers see research as relevant to the choices they make. I firmly believe obtaining a Doctorate in Educational Studies will position me to promote a change in the educational system in Ghana and Africa. I strongly believe I am ready to model the process of breathing life into the school system in that continent and I can do this very well by finding out new approaches and learning, analyzing information, and looking at ways and means to improve and adapt to modern demands of education. During this process, my intent is to create the norm of using research to guide instruction by exposing future teachers not only to research findings but also to ideas that might help shape their conceptual understanding of curriculum and instruction. Is, therefore, my goal to find out ways and means in which my leadership will be a key to present day teaching profession. I hope to be using the best practices and research-based strategies that will influence policy makers and stakeholders. After my Master’s in Education, I realized that my success as an instructional leader would be to keep all stakeholders involved, communicating positive expectations for student learning, improving instructional practice, and being able to innovate successfully in the classroom. Finally, on a personal level, working on an understanding of mutual expectations with my academic supervisor will be an essential part of guiding me to formulate my degree plan.
