Often, I find myself sitting in my room questioning why I chose to pursue a career in the field of education. I only begin to question my decision in becoming a future educator when I encounter major challenges. Today, I am fully aware that in life, one is unable to run away from his or her obstacles; however, he or she has the potential to overcome these barriers.

On Monday, July 11, I took the Praxis Core Mathematics Exam, which I am required to pass to receive admission into the School of Education at Felician University. I scored a 146 on the exam―the passing score is a 150. When I walked out of the testing center, I was extremely upset, and I also began questioning my entire college career. It is also pivotal for one to realize that nothing beats first-hand experiences―one's life lessons, to be exact.

For instance, during my sophomore year of college, I spent many weeks complaining about my life; in fact, I was acting like an ungrateful little boy who did not get a new toy car for his collection. For that reason, I consider myself to be a wise and ambitious young man. I thank God, my beloved mother, family, friends, and Christopher Lewis Calderone, my special friend in heaven for guiding me to the right path in life. If it were not for them, I would not be this bright and determined young man.

God, my family, and friends are my special mentors, especially since they all want me to succeed and become a successful educator. Having such mentors present in my life motivates me to strive for the best, no matter what. After failing the Praxis Core Mathematics Exam four times in a row, I was upset, as well as frustrated; however, before taking the next exam, I told myself the following: Kevin, you will pass the exam and become a successful educator.
