My interest in medicine has evolved throughout my life as a result of accumulating different experiences. My first interest in medicine was seeing my mother being treated for breast cancer. This experience gave me an unrequited respect for the medical doctor. During my teenage years, I began to take an interest in the sciences and philosophy, as I enjoy learning about the world in a dynamic and challenging perspective, and also the personal journey in developing and challenging my own point of view. At this point the idea of working as a medical doctor became very appealing, as the vocation uniquely combines my academic interests with my inherent nature to help others. So I decided to pursue a biomedical degree with the hope of becoming a doctor. My undergraduate studies has improved my personal qualities, namely in leadership, motivation, and organisation, furthermore it has given me a unique insight into the NHS system particularly on the …show more content…

This knowledge gave me a new found respect for doctors, as it highlighted their versatility to be able to deal with stress whilst talking to patients about complex, and often sensitive information on their level of understanding. Through interacting with the patients, this has cultivated my confidence and communication skills to talk to patients about their day to day lives, and to relay their concerns to the healthcare staff. Through observation I began to understand the different roles of NHS professionals, particularly on the role of the nurse, where the nurse is often the closest professional to the patients, this emphasizes the importance of listening skills as a doctor, as other healthcare professionals may provide additional insight on patients with may be crucial to their
