There are many reasons why I am seeking to become a dentist, but essentially it comes down to the person I am and want to be. Eliminating pain, increasing a person’s confidence and generally increases ones wellbeing. It is the impact on people’s day-to-day lives is what drives me to be a dentist. To affirm my interest in the course I attended a taster day at Queen Mary University. When visiting I was able to look at some dental procedures and talk to dental students. Speaking with the students and learning how much fun they were having gave me motivation and courage to apply for the highly competitive course.

This highlighted the individuality of the profession and increased my passion for pursuing this career. I’ve completed a total of 12 weeks work experience as well as volunteering locally and in Pakistan gaining an insight into more specialised areas of Dentistry.
Achievements in my life so far include, attaining excellent GCSE grades; been awarded prefect status and been captain of the school cricket team; achieved bronze at Duke of Edinburgh Awards and participating in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge, placing second place in my school. This shows I have been building my character in a positive and sustainable manner, constantly aspiring to take a leading position and to work as a team. Building confidence through public speaking and studying multiple languages allows me to be patient, thinking rationally before acting and being decisive. I believe these traits are needed for a medical professional. I have had so much pleasure being able to give back a little of what I have received by mentoring GCSE students in Science and Geography, working as part of a team in Pakistan to dig a bore hole for clean water and building a school.
