From Law and Order to Accounting and Finance Since I was a young man, I have had the idea that I wanted my future career to be associated with law enforcement. This aspiration began when I was just a freshman in high school. The television was on and I continued to flick through the channels until I landed upon a show called “NCIS.” The amount of critical thinking and problem solving had interested me from the very beginning. In my sophomore year of high school I took an elective called ‘Law Studies and Court Procedures.’ In this class we learned numerous laws and how they are formed, and completed mock trials that replicated famous cases. The state level had nine teams total from all over Florida. Our team ended up taking 3rd place in the state, and it was at that moment that I thought I had found my calling in life. My initial career aspiration was to become a Federal Air Marshall. I made this decision based on my passion for flying, traveling, and law enforcement. Since I have been enrolled at Rowan College at Gloucester County in Mr. Sims class, I have come to realize that this field is not the best fit for me. I have since realized that I possess a natural gift and passion for numbers and budgeting; so I made a change of majors from Criminal Justice to Business for accounting. My goals following this career path are to work for an accounting firm and eventually open up my own business. Another alternative route I could take if the opportunity presents itself is to be affiliated with the stock market. A financial analyst’s main job is to study the growth and development of stocks; ultimately guiding their clients to make smart stock investments based off of extensive research they conduct. The minimum education requirement for this job is a bachelor’s degree in a math related field such as accounting, finance, statistics, etc. This is a career path that is on the rise; between the years 2012 and 2022 it is expected to open up 39,000 new jobs.
