Being involved in both the cross country and track programs at Avon high school has provided me with the personal attributes of resilience, leadership, and self-discipline. These attributes will enable me to succeed in college because they will fuel my determination to accomplish my goals and will make me a reliable colleague to work with. Participating in sports often comes with encountering adversity, but in turn, teaches important life lessons in overcoming these obstacles. Running is a very uncomfortable sport, but it has allowed me to learn how to push through the pain and achieve my goals. I’ve always had a passion for helping others and wanting to impact lives, so an education in engineering will enable me to pursue these passions. Engineers are constantly striving to revolutionize the world, whether it’s by designing practical prosthetic limbs or through the creation of a pharmaceutical drug that terminates carcinogenesis. I want my future to be full of these kinds of cutting-edge, life-changing endeavors. An engineering education will provide me with the foundation for this exploration into conceiving revolutionary ideas and making them a reality. My long-range goals are to attain a job in which I have the opportunity to create life-changing products/technologies. In middle school, I was in the regular English and Social Studies classes, so I had no intentions of being one of the top academic performers in my class of 700 students. I got all A’s, but I had never really thought of myself as an exceptional student. I remember receiving my transcript after the first semester of my freshman year, looking at my class rank, and immediately jumping to the conclusion that it was a typo. Ever since then, I’ve set out a goal for myself to graduate high school with my GPA ranked in the Top 10 of my class.
