My interest in teaching began more than 30 years ago with my addiction to the “scratch and sniff” stickers that were used to mark my school work. To this day, the scents of these stickers trigger my sweet memories of school. As a mother of five children, I still secretly enjoy them and reflect on my younger years at school as fun when I use them for my children’s achievements. Throughout my primary years I was lucky enough to have positive and fond memories of my teachers and in return had a positive impact on me.
Initially, I chose to become a primary teacher because of my love and connection with younger children which allowed me to build strong relationships with them. I was interested in teaching a class of students a range of subjects such as English and Science as well as arts and in a way ‘raise them’ as my own. As a result, I am currently enrolled in Open Universities Australia (OUA), studying Bachelor of Education (Primary) online. I am a compassionate person with a good sense of humour. I am also viewed as a friendly and calm person with a young heart and often find myself singing to children’s songs, many of which I have memorised. Furthermore, I am aware that a good teacher includes multiple learning styles in the classroom to suit students’ needs as they all respond in a different way to different teaching styles. I personally experienced this with my own children; ages from 4 years to 18 years and with children whom I have tutored and assisted with homework afterschool within my community. All children have different learning abilities and hence, require different teaching
