In Elementary through High school we are always taught that our education is important and we should always take it seriously. Well I always took that to heart and worked hard and always focused on my studies. There was one particular subject that really got to me and started to become one of my favorite subjects. That subject was English. English led me to something I absolutely love and could never live without and that is reading. In knowing this I decided that I wanted a career where I could always read and decided that I want to become a book editor at a great publishing house. I want to have the opportunity to make the books that I really love to read. In my sophomore and junior years of high school I had the same English teacher and she has taught me so much. Ms. Fischer (my teacher), has taught me to believe in myself and to believe that I can become this book editor and publish books that she would someday read. Reading lets me jump into another world and to get lost in story that could steal my breath in one moment and make me laugh in the next. Then last year I got the opportunity to share this feeling with kids that may be struggling or simply want to get better at reading. I now volunteer at the Children’s Literacy Center (the CLC), and every Monday and Wednesday I help a little girl jump into the worlds I so love to escape in. I also volunteer at the Child Enrichment Center (CEC), who feel like reading is a big part in helping the kids and families that may be less fortunate than me.
