Art, throughout my life, has always played an important role in who I am as a person, and choosing a college to help create a career in art is extremely important. Choosing MECA as the college, and art, more specifically, illustration, as a career path were both decisions that I needed to go over. After long thought and asking for help from teachers, friends and family I now know what I wish to pursue.
When choosing art as my career path there was a lot to think about, many things came to mind. However it was an easy choice, how could I not choose art? Not only is art something I enjoy, but it is a core part of who I am as a human. I value art and am always striving to improve. I want to evoke emotions in people through my artwork, I want to influence people. I believe that with enough work everyone has potential with art, however, I think there is something more than just hard work that is needed to become a successful artist, and that’s passion. I’ve struggled a lot with my journey with art, but I know I will never give up because of the passion I have for it.

To most of the people in my area thought it was the “obvious choice”, and for a multitude of reasons it made sense for me to go there. It was close, had great programs and I already took two classes there my senior year as a guest student. So I became a guest student there, and it taught me so much. However, I wasn’t content. Although the education and the people I met there were amazing and will stay with me forever, I feel a need to push myself. I’ve lived in western Michigan my entire life, I wanted to experience more of this
