I believe that the Certificate in Business will compliment my planned B.S. in Computer Science. It will allow me to reach my goals as a well-rounded, successful software developer. More specifically, the certificate will allow me to pursue my passion for working with people, give me the opportunity to expand my areas of interest when job-searching, and set me apart from others. Besides my passion for programming, I am also passionate about working with people. I enjoy being able to working with other people on projects, and I jump at any chance to explain my work to others through discussions and presentations. For example, this past summer I was given the opportunity to build a course website for a horticulture class that is now being offered this semester. During the process, I kept an ongoing dialogue with my supervisor and coworkers, and met with my supervisor weekly concerning the project. I valued these meetings because it allowed me both voice my opinions and get feedback on my work. The entirety of this discourse was powered by communication skills and teamwork skills. In the current career field, software devolvement employers seek employees that are not only good at programming, but also good with working with others and communicating their ideas. I have taken computer science classes with team programming projects. I recall my best experiences involved teams that met in person and discussed the project with each other. That allowed me to learn programming better, gave me a chance to explain concepts to others, and those meetings created a productive, social environment.
