True happiness comes from helping others. Life tests resilience, commitment and dedication as we strive to reach our goal. One of my goals is helping people as I pursue my aim in life. I strongly believe in the significance of volunteering and helping others.Upon my move to the US, being in an unfamiliar area and culture, I had a hard time figuring out how or where to offer my assistance. Gradually, I started to find a way to be active and contribute to my new community. Eventually, I realized that the best fit for me was tutoring.. Their disapproval mainly stem from them believing it was not fruitful towards my career path. Though many students I tutor have a hard time focusing on school as they battle with their socioeconomic realities, they have a desire to further their education. In low income neighborhood similar to mine, it is common to see the majority of students struggle in school. Some students do not have parents to help them in their studies while other have parents who are too busy to be fully engaged in the lives of their children. Not having anyone to help makes it harder for the students to overcome challenges related to their education. Noticing this strong need and my ability to help, I started tutoring a few students in my area with spare time after school. The more the students relied on me to aid them with school work the more I felt responsible. As I helped them with their studies, I started to earn their trust and they began sharing with me their future plans, problems and concerns.The three years of volunteering has given me much more than I anticipated. Along the way, I was able to build meaningful relationships which will last for very long time and learn from my students as they learned from me.
