Given the assignment to pick my future career, the 6th grade version of myself struggled with the choices presented to me. I thought an online career finder could guide me in the right direction towards a career that would give me a sense of purpose in life, and though pharmacy started as a blind decision, I have found that all of my best qualities and passions are found within the pharmacy profession. At the heart of who I am, and what I have to contribute to society, is my commitment to learning and serving. To be sure of my choice, I jumped on the opportunity to work in a local pharmacy, and of all my experiences, this was the most rewarding and informative for my future as a pharmacist.Working in a local, independent pharmacy has given me invaluable insight to the pharmacy profession, and my time there has confirmed that pharmacy is the vehicle by which I will fulfill my purpose in life. This experience has highlighted the characteristics and talents best suited for a career in pharmacy that I also find reflected in myself. Pharmacy is a profession unlike any other. Patients depend and rely on the pharmacist in many of the same ways as their physicians. This dependency places a requirement on pharmacists to understand the body and the actions of medications, all of which fascinate me and have motivated me to make the most of my education. I have been able to see this knowledge in action through my job during a particularly rough flu season. I loved being able to understand the biological action of Tamiflu, and I felt confident in counseling patients on the window of opportunity for its
