Examples of civil engineering can be seen all around us, from the buildings that we live and work in to major transport and infrastructure systems that enable our country to function. I would like to study Civil Engineering as it combines the two subjects that I thoroughly enjoy; Maths and Physics. It is the problem solving aspect of Maths that keeps me interested, as there is a logical, analytical process that must be followed in order to reach a desired outcome or goal. During AS Maths, I have studied various different modules, including an algebra module which has forced me to pay great attention to detail when analysing data and worded problems. These problems are important in developing my perseverance as they can often take lots of time …show more content…

Similarly Physics has a large emphasis on problem solving and applying relevant knowledge to everyday life. I am fascinated by the theoretical side of Physics as I believe that is important to question and ask why the universe is the way it is. I have demonstrated my mathematical and physics ability on a number of occasions; I passed my GCSE Maths a year early, achieving a grade A*; I achieved a gold on the UKMT Maths challenge in Year 11, and I also received a silver in the senior UKMT Maths challenge earlier this year. These challenges were not compulsory; I took part in these to prove my mathematical ability and push myself as much as possible. Another proud achievement of mine is my nomination for physicist of the year from my college. (Unfortunately I was actually on holiday so I was unable to pick up the award). I am currently in my second year of study and I have decided to take an AS in Further Maths to give myself a greater challenge and also give me a head start on the course at
